Mr. & Mrs. R. Gifford (No longer current owner)
125 East Maple Street
Hinsdale, Illinois 60521
Special Notes:

One of the four oldest houses in Hinsdale, our office found this house in need of some serious restoration. The Gifford's had purchased the house and were only the fourth owners in it's long history. Over time, the house had been converted into a two-flat and hadn't been updated in decades. Several poorly constructed additions needed to be rebuilt or removed. Thirty, oversized, three foot high eave brackets had to be made to match the existing brackets so that the addition would blend seamlessly with the original home.

The main staircase, a key feature in Italianate style housing, was completely missing but was restored with oversized balustrade and a fourteen inch square newel post. The house was gutted down to the bare structure and all mechanical systems were updated to modern standards. New plaster walls and oversized wood trim were installed which exactly matched the original trim. The restored roof cupola matches an old photograph of the home and overlooks downtown Hinsdale.

The original porch had no hand railings. Per the modern Building Codes, the extension of the porch required the introduction of new handrails. Our office custom designed a creative railing to reflect the character of the home.
